Florence Nwaeke, wife of George Nwaeke, the recently resigned Head of Service in Rivers State, has expressed deep concern over the safety and whereabouts of her husband following his recent public comments on the political crisis rocking the state.
Speaking to journalists on Friday night, Mrs. Nwaeke disclosed that her husband travelled to Abuja earlier in the day for a meeting with a friend. According to her, he confirmed his arrival in the capital but has since become unreachable.
“I sent him a message asking if he was under duress or if he had been kidnapped because he was no longer communicating with me,” she said, visibly distressed. “Jesus help me. Nigerians help me. My husband is in trouble.”
The development comes hours after George Nwaeke appeared in a viral interview where he accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating the political instability in Rivers State in a bid to avoid impeachment. Nwaeke alleged that the governor ordered his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to burn down the Rivers State House of Assembly.
In response, Governor Fubara dismissed the claims, saying the former Head of Service had been “compromised” and was “coerced” to spread falsehood.
Mrs. Nwaeke also revealed that her husband’s resignation was triggered by pressure to sign a document stating that the governor failed to declare N50 billion. She said he declined and chose to step down from his position instead.
As of the time of this report, efforts to reach Mr. Nwaeke have remained unsuccessful, and his family continues to call for public support and intervention to ensure his safety.
