Tinubu Offers Automatic Employment to 774 National Health Fellows

President Bola Tinubu has assured all 774 fellows of the National Health Fellows Programme of automatic employment upon completing their one-year tenure.

“You are hired,” Tinubu declared during the programme’s official launch at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Thursday.

Approved by the President in April 2024 as part of his Renewed Hope Agenda, the programme aims to enhance accountability and efficiency in healthcare delivery. Since February 27, 2025, the fellows have been undergoing training under the Sector Wide Approach coordination office and will spend the next year monitoring Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

The announcement came in response to a call by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, urging federal, state, and local governments to integrate the fellows into the workforce to strengthen Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria.

Hailing them as pioneers of a new era in primary healthcare, Tinubu emphasized their role in supporting the government’s plan to expand PHCs from 8,809 to 17,618 by 2027.
