Tinubu Appoints Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as Accountant General of the Federation

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, following a rigorous selection process. His appointment, approved on Tuesday, will take effect on Friday, coinciding with the retirement of the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin.

Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. His selection was finalized after a competitive and merit-based process overseen by a designated committee, which assessed candidates from among the Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service. The selection process comprised three stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and an oral interview.

The structured selection process reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to transparency, excellence, and competence in Nigeria’s public service.

Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which he obtained in 1990. He later earned a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to serve the nation with integrity, professionalism, and dedication.
