Mark, Amaechi lead APC and PDP members to launch new party, ADA

A major political shift appears underway in Nigeria, as senior figures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) move forward with establishing a new political entity: the All Democratic Alliance (ADA)

At the forefront of this initiative is former PDP Senate President David Mark, currently chairing the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG) — a gathering of top-tier defectors from the PDP and other opposition groups. The coalition’s growing disillusionment with the party’s leadership and direction has fueled efforts for an alternative platform ahead of the 2027 elections

On Thursday, 19 June 2025, in Abuja, the NOCG formally launched ADA through its newly appointed 15‑member New Platform Committee. The committee approved the party’s name, constitution, manifesto, logo, and interim leadership structure

Chief Akin A. Ricketts was named Pro-tem Chairman, with Abdullahi Musa Elayo as Pro-tem National Secretary. The committee, chaired by former PDP heavyweight and ex‑Transport Minister Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, also tasked the interim team with securing office premises, pursuing formal registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and preparing for full-scale political operations under the Electoral Act 2022

ADA’s founding members stress that the party aims to bring together inclusive governance, national unity, and democratic accountability. Observers anticipate that the involvement of experienced figures such as Mark and Amaechi could trigger further defections from the PDP and smaller opposition groups

As ADA embarks on its formal registration with INEC, political analysts suggest its emergence could reshape the country’s political dynamics, presenting Nigerians with a credible new opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections
