Elder Statesman Christopher Kolade Passes On

Nigeria is mourning the passing of Dr. Christopher Kolade, a revered broadcaster, diplomat, corporate leader, and teacher, who died peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 92.

In a statement released by his family, they expressed gratitude for his remarkable life, saying, “We are thankful for his incredible life of faith and service, and are grateful for God’s abundant blessings.”

Born on December 28, 1932, in Erin-Oke, Osun State, Kolade was the son of an Anglican missionary. He attended Government College, Ibadan, before proceeding to Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he completed his higher education.

Kolade began his professional journey in broadcasting, rising through the ranks to become Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). His career later transitioned into the corporate world, where he served as Chief Executive and subsequently Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, earning widespread recognition for his ethical leadership and commitment to corporate reform.

In public service, he represented Nigeria as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, where he was admired for his diplomacy, professionalism, and integrity. Beyond government and business, Kolade was deeply invested in academia and leadership development. He taught Corporate Governance and Human Resource Management at the Lagos Business School and Leadership & Conflict Management at the School of Media & Communication, both part of Pan-Atlantic University.

He also served as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Pan-Atlantic University’s Governing Council, and later became Chancellor of McPherson University, Ogun State. His lifelong advocacy for integrity and transparency led him to chair several ethics-driven organisations, including Integrity Organisation Ltd GTE and The Convention on Business Integrity Ltd GTE.

Dr. Kolade’s legacy transcends titles and positions; he was widely regarded as a symbol of integrity, humility, and service. His influence shaped generations of professionals across media, business, and academia.

He is survived by his family, mentees, and countless admirers who continue to uphold his values of faith, diligence, and ethical leadership.
