Crisis at PDP HQ: Protesters Storm Secretariat as Factions Battle for Control

A protest broke out on Monday at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, as loyalists of the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, stormed Wadata Plaza demanding the removal of the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC). The protesters, who sang solidarity songs, accused the Damagum leadership of mismanaging party affairs and insisted that they vacate the premises immediately.

The demonstration adds to the escalating leadership crisis within the PDP. Recently, the Damagum-led NWC suspended the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, for one month over alleged misconduct. In retaliation, a faction loyal to Anyanwu held a parallel meeting in Abuja, announcing the suspension of Damagum and several members of his committee.

Security personnel were deployed to the party headquarters to prevent clashes as both factions continued their struggle for control of the secretariat. The renewed tension has further deepened divisions within the PDP and raised concerns over the stability of the main opposition party as it prepares for upcoming political activities.
