Tinubu Anticipates Further Defections to APC

President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence in the continued growth of the All Progressives Congress (APC), anticipating more defections from opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the APC National Summit held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu addressed party leaders, National Working Committee members, National Assembly leadership, and the Progressive Governors’ Forum, which comprises 22 governors.

During the summit, the APC officially endorsed President Tinubu as its sole candidate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election. This unanimous decision was supported by the party’s leadership, including the National Working Committee, the National Assembly, and the Progressive Governors’ Forum. The endorsement underscores the party’s commitment to Tinubu’s leadership and the continuation of his administration’s policies.

President Tinubu highlighted the constitutional rights of freedom of association and movement, emphasizing that the influx of politicians into the APC reflects democratic choices rather than a drift toward a one-party state. He stated, “You don’t blame people bailing out of a sinking ship when they have no life jacket. I am glad of what we have and I’m expecting more to come. That’s the game.”

The President also addressed concerns about the nation’s economic challenges, acknowledging the difficulties but reaffirming his administration’s commitment to long-term reforms aimed at stabilizing and revitalizing Nigeria’s economy. He noted that while the reforms have been tough, they are necessary steps toward achieving sustainable growth and prosperity for the country.

The APC’s endorsement of President Tinubu and the anticipated defections from opposition parties signal a significant consolidation of political support for the ruling party as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
