Rivers Assembly Accuses Governor Fubara, Deputy of Misconduct, Issues Notice of Misconduct.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has formally issued a notice of misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

In a document submitted to Speaker Martin Amaewhule on Monday, 26 members of the Assembly outlined allegations against the governor, citing violations of Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and other applicable laws.

The lawmakers accused Fubara of engaging in reckless and unconstitutional expenditure of public funds, obstructing the activities of the Assembly, and making key government appointments without proper screening and confirmation. Additional allegations include the withholding of salaries, allowances, and funds meant for the Assembly, as well as seizing the salary of the Clerk, Emeka Amadi.

Referencing Section 188(3) of the Constitution, Speaker Amaewhule called on the governor to respond to the allegations within 14 days. The section stipulates that within this timeframe, the Assembly must resolve, via motion, whether or not to proceed with an investigation into the claims.

Amaewhule urged the governor to take appropriate action in response to the notice, while extending his “esteemed regards.”
