The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, alleging that the government is pursuing policies detrimental to Nigerians while attempting to suppress opposition voices and create a one-party state.
These claims were outlined in a communiqué issued at the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday. The statement, delivered by the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, expressed deep concern over the current state of governance in the country.
Damagum described the All Progressives Congress-led administration as exploitative and indifferent to the suffering of the people. He highlighted growing insecurity, rising poverty, and the collapse of small businesses as evidence of failed leadership.
“NEC condemns the growing spate of killings, kidnappings, and terror attacks, which are being met with indifference from President Tinubu, who appears to have abandoned his constitutional duty to protect citizens,” Damagum said.
He further criticized the administration for its economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies, increased electricity tariffs, and the introduction of multiple taxes, which he said have caused widespread hardship, business closures, and job losses.
According to the communiqué, the PDP also accused the Tinubu government of policy inconsistency, rampant corruption, and mismanagement of public funds, which have contributed to investor skepticism and infrastructural decay.
The party called on the President to reverse what it termed as “anti-people” policies and take immediate steps to tackle the economic and security challenges facing the nation.
Damagum alleged that the ruling APC is working to undermine Nigeria’s democratic institutions by intimidating opposition parties, a move he claimed stems from fears of losing the 2027 general elections.
“The NEC is resolute in opposing the APC’s attempt to establish a one-party regime by silencing opposition voices and undermining democratic institutions,” he said.
In his remarks, Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, condemned the Federal Government’s alleged tactics of coercion and political exclusion. He acknowledged the challenges the party has faced, including internal defections and coalition movements, but affirmed the PDP’s commitment to unity and democratic values. “Despite the pressures we face, our members remain committed and resilient. We will not yield to intimidation or coercion,” Mohammed stated.
