Nigeria Announces Public Holidays for Eid-el-Kabir Festivities

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha (Eid-el-Kabir) celebration. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to all Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora, urging them to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, obedience, and faith exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him). He also encouraged the Muslim Ummah to use this period to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in Nigeria.

The Minister emphasized that the public holidays align with the Federal Government’s commitment to fostering national unity and spiritual reflection. He assured Nigerians that the people-oriented reforms and initiatives under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aim to restore Nigeria to the path of progress.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is a significant Islamic festival commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. It is marked by special prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.

The declaration of these public holidays provides an opportunity for Muslims to observe the festival’s rites and for all Nigerians to reflect on the values of sacrifice and unity.
