FG Launches 77,400 Housing Project

In a major push to close Nigeria’s housing gap, the Federal Government has announced plans to deliver 77,400 new housing units across the country. The initiative is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide development strategy. Speaking on the program, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, said the government is focused on mass housing delivery that meets the needs of all Nigerians, especially the most vulnerable.

As part of the rollout, the government will build 3,000 housing units each in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, These flagship projects will form the new “Renewed Hope Cities,” designed to modernize urban living and infrastructure. In addition, every state in the country will receive 250 housing units, while each of the 774 local government areas will get 100 units, bringing the total to 77,400 new homes nationwide.

A standout feature of this plan is the government’s commitment to inclusivity. Thirty percent of the housing units are reserved for Nigerians with no income. Minister Ata revealed that although a 20% allocation was initially proposed, President Tinubu insisted on increasing it to 30%, highlighting his commitment to vulnerable communities.

The initiative also includes potential international partnerships. A delegation led by Allen Ke Nam of SV-NED Incorporated has expressed interest in investing in Nigeria’s affordable housing sector. The group is requesting access to land to begin work and promises to introduce new building technologies that could lead to significant job creation and skill acquisition for Nigerians.

Minister Ata emphasized the need for clear and structured partnerships, inviting investors to submit formal proposals outlining areas of collaboration. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, echoed this sentiment, assuring the delegation of the government’s full support and expressing optimism about the positive impact of these collaborations on Nigeria’s housing sector.

With this plan, the Federal Government hopes to not only provide shelter but also stimulate economic growth, empower communities, and bring the idea of homeownership closer to everyday Nigerians.
