In a significant shake-up within the Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP), the party’s Caretaker Committee has suspended former State Chairperson, Pastor (Mrs) Dayo Ekong, and Sam Okpala for six months. The suspension, announced on May 11, 2025, cites gross misconduct and breaches of the party’s constitution.
The disciplinary actions were detailed in a statement signed by Rotimi Odunaike, Chairman, and Dorcas Omorodion, Secretary of the Lagos State Caretaker Committee. The statement highlighted that Ekong’s simultaneous holding of the positions of State Chairperson and National Financial Secretary contravened the party’s constitutional provisions.
Furthermore, the party has dissolved all Local Government and Ward Executive Committees across Lagos State and suspended their members for six months due to alleged anti-party activities. This move aims to restore order and ensure adherence to the party’s constitution within its structures.
The statement emphasized that the former state executive committee failed to uphold the party’s constitution, leading to their suspension. The Caretaker Committee has been tasked with overseeing the party’s affairs in Lagos State during this transitional period.
This development is part of broader disciplinary measures within the Labour Party, as the National Executive Council recently suspended other prominent members over similar allegations.
