APC Reclaims Ganye Assembly Seat in Adamawa by Narrow Margin

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Misa Musa Jauro of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Ganye State Constituency by-election in Adamawa State. The Returning Officer, Professor Tukur Ahmed, announced the result early Sunday, stating that Musa Jauro secured 15,923 votes, narrowly defeating his opponent, Buba Muhammad Joda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 15,794 votes. The margin of victory was just 129 votes, underscoring the election’s tight contest.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy in the Adamawa State House of Assembly following the death of the former lawmaker, Abdulmalik Jauro Musa, in May 2024. His passing left the constituency seat vacant, paving the way for Saturday’s poll. Voting took place across all 10 wards in the constituency, with both APC and PDP recording wins in different areas, reflecting the competitiveness of the contest.

Reports from observers and party agents noted that the process was largely peaceful, with security agencies maintaining a heavy presence throughout the exercise. However, there were claims of vote-buying and intimidation, with both major parties trading accusations against each other. Despite these allegations, INEC has not declared any disruption serious enough to warrant a rerun.

With this victory, the APC regains its representation in the state legislature, restoring the Ganye seat it previously held before the demise of Abdulmalik Musa. The outcome is being viewed as a significant boost for the APC in Adamawa, given the close competition with the ruling PDP in the state.
