Osun Governor Adeleke Dumps PDP

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing the unresolved leadership crisis at the party’s national level. In a resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, and submitted to party leaders in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2 of Ede North Local Government Area, Adeleke said the deepening turmoil within the PDP had made it impossible for him to continue as a member.

He publicly confirmed the development on Monday night through a statement on his Instagram page, where he also thanked the party for the opportunities it provided him, from serving as a senator to becoming governor.

Adeleke’s exit comes at a critical time for the PDP in Osun State. Internal party sources had earlier warned that he was unlikely to contest for the party’s nomination in the 2026 governorship election unless the national leadership dispute was resolved. The state chapter had expressed hope that a reconciliation, one officially recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, could persuade him to remain. With his resignation now official, the PDP faces fresh uncertainty over its preparedness for the upcoming polls, while Adeleke has yet to disclose his next political destination.
