WAEC Temporarily Withdraws 2025 WASSCE Results Over Technical Glitch

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily withdrawn access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates due to technical issues discovered after the results were released.

In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Department, WAEC revealed that the glitch was linked to a new security feature introduced to curb examination malpractice. The innovation—paper serialization, was deployed in four core subjects: Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.

WAEC noted that while the measure aligns with global best practices in assessment and had previously been adopted by another national examination body, it inadvertently caused errors in the released results. An internal post-release review uncovered these bugs, prompting the Council to act swiftly to maintain fairness and uphold its standards.

“As a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, the Council has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches,” the statement read. Consequently, the result checker portal has been temporarily disabled.

WAEC has urged candidates who have already accessed their results to recheck them after 24 hours. The examination body also offered its “deep and sincere apologies” to affected students and the general public, assuring them that the issue would be resolved transparently and urgently.

“WAEC remains committed to upholding excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes,” the Council emphasized.
