Lagos APC Flags Off Campaign: 433 Candidates Receive Banners Ahead of July 12 Polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, officially handed party flags to its slate of 433 local government candidates, 57 for chairmanship positions and 376 for councillorships, in readiness for the upcoming July 12 elections. The event, which also served as a campaign launch, took place at the party secretariat in Ogba, Lagos.

According to Seye Oladejo, the party’s spokesperson, the campaign has been decentralised across all three senatorial districts, with Lagos West split into two zones, and Local Organising Committees (LOCs) formed in every council and ward to drive grassroots mobilisation.

At the ceremony, Gov. Babajide Sanwo‑Olu (represented by SSG Abimbola Salu‑Hundeyin) showered the flag bearers with assurances of full support, urging them to work diligently to deliver party promises and uphold APC values. Highlighting the importance of youth engagement, Tajudeen Olusi (GAC Chairman) called on young members to “divide themselves into groups and move into different streets to mobilise support,” reminding unsuccessful aspirants to remain patient and hopeful. Lagos State Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa emphasised party unity, describing the local polls as a “testing ground to return President Bola Tinubu in 2027” with a strong mandate.

State APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi highlighted the party’s reconciliation efforts following the May 10 primaries, where 475 aspirants competed for only 57 chairs, and urged winners to continue the reconciliation among party members, focusing on community needs in education, health, infrastructure, and youth development.

Campaign Committee Chairman Alhaji Babatunde Balogun reinforced confidence in victory, warning that campaign activities must end by June 9, under electoral regulations, and tasked Local Organising Committees (LOCs) with leading voter mobilisation at the ward level.
