Jigawa’s Political Landscape Shifts as PDP, NNPP Supporters Join APC

In a major political shake-up in Jigawa State, scores of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), strengthening the ruling party’s position in the state ahead of upcoming local elections.

The announcement was made during the 6th edition of the “Government and Citizens Engagement” programme, which was held in Buji Local Government Area on Sunday. Governor Umar Namadi welcomed the defectors and described the development as a reflection of the growing public confidence in his administration.

“This is more than just a win for APC,” Namadi said to an energized crowd. “It shows that our development efforts are resonating with the people, and we are building a stronger, more inclusive Jigawa.”

Idris Maikura led the defection from Chirbun Ward in Unguwar Maina, who spoke on behalf of the new members. “We’ve seen the impact Governor Namadi is making on the ground. From infrastructure to inclusive governance, it’s clear APC is focused on progress,” Maikura stated.

Governor Namadi assured the new entrants of equal opportunity within the party, promising that their voices would be heard and their contributions valued. He encouraged them to be active participants in governance and to help spread the party’s vision across communities.

This isn’t the first major political realignment in Jigawa this month. Member of the House of Representatives for Gwaram Federal Constituency, Yusuf Galambi, recently announced his departure from the NNPP to the APC, citing internal leadership disputes within his former party.

Not everyone is celebrating, though. PDP State Chairman, Ali Diginsa, responded to the defections with disappointment. “We’re not surprised, but we are disappointed,” he told reporters. “These individuals have made this move for personal gain, and we won’t miss them.”

With local elections approaching, these high-profile defections could significantly impact the balance of power in Jigawa. For now, the APC is riding a wave of momentum, and all eyes are on what happens next.
