Senator Natasha Sues Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi for ₦5 Billion Over Defamation

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has filed a fiery ₦5 billion lawsuit against fellow lawmaker Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi of Ebonyi North, over some seriously bold claims made on national TV.
According to court documents filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, Natasha isn’t taking lightly to comments made by Nwaebonyi during a March 6th interview on Channels Television. In the now-viral clip, the Ebonyi senator allegedly described her as a “gold digger, habitual liar, and habitual blackmailer.” And if that wasn’t enough, he reportedly threw in that she’s “a mother of six children from different men.”
Natasha’s legal team, led by Michael Numa, says the remarks weren’t just untrue, they were “malicious, reckless, and damaging,” especially for a woman working to inspire the next generation of female leaders in Nigeria.
“The statements undermine her public image and integrity, portraying her as morally unfit to serve in public office,” the suit reads. “She is a role model to many and a symbol of courage for women speaking truth to power.”
But she’s not just demanding a hefty ₦5 billion in aggravated damages. Natasha also wants:
•A public apology (yes, on the same TV platform and in two national newspapers)
•A retraction of the statements
•A perpetual injunction stopping Nwaebonyi (and his associates) from repeating the claims
•And 10% annual interest on the judgment sum until it’s fully paid (because interest must accrue, please).
This lawsuit comes on the heels of another dramatic legal saga involving Natasha and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. After a seat relocation debacle in the Senate chambers, she filed a separate ₦100.3 billion defamation suit against Akpabio. Not one to be left out, Akpabio’s wife clapped back with her own ₦250 billion lawsuit against Natasha, following comments made on Arise TV.
It looks like Nigeria’s Senate is quickly becoming the hottest courtroom drama of 2025, and we’re all watching it with popcorn in hand.
Behind The States will keep you updated as this legal tea continues to steep.
